At the foot of the Grimsel & Furka pass
Over the Furka or Grimsel pass or through the Furka tunnel, Oberwald is the first village you will see in the Goms. Besides the village center with the church, Unterwassern, Gletsch and the abandoned hamlets of the Geren valley belong to Oberwald. With the Grand Hotel du Rhône in Gletsch and the Belvédère near the Furka Pass, Oberwald has been one of the pioneer communities of tourism in the Alps since 1850.
