Saint Anthony of Padua must have lived up to his reputation as a helper in many hardships, because even in the last century a votive tablet from 1680 was still hanging in the chapel. Governor Peter von Riedmatten, still childless at the death of his second wife, donated the main altar of the chapel in 1683 and thus laid the foundation for the popularity of this Franciscan saint in Goms. In 1772, the construction of the chapel nave was begun.
