Those who like to steer their bikes on agile downhill rides will feel comfortable on the Grimsel Trail. For once, the more than 800 metres of altitude difference are not to be overcome uphill but downhill.
The start is at the Grimsel pass summit. Right at the starting point a wonderful alpine panorama invites you to take a moment to enjoy the enchanting view of the Bernese Alps and the precious moated castle of the Grimsel world.
Passing the legendary "Totesee" you reach the highest point of the tour at 2206 m above sea level in about 1.5 km. Again a wonderful view invites you to stay. Here the countless peaks of the Valais Alps present themselves up to the world-famous Matterhorn. Far down in the valley, the young Rhone winds its way through the fertile valley floor of the Goms.
Then it's off! The long descent leads through various vegetation stages to the final point in Obergesteln. For centuries, this path (Via Sbrinz) was also used by the heavily loaded mule trains on their way south.
