A document from 1610 speaks of a barn "im vnder dorff by der Capelen". Since the upper Geren chapel, dedicated to St. Bartholomew, also stands on the edge of the lower Gerendorf, it remains uncertain which of the two chapels is meant. In 1688 both chapels are documented. The chapel was consecrated to the Sorrowful Mother of God in 1873. Today it is privately owned.
Instead of an altar, a newer painting of the Immaculate Conception decorates the front of the choir. The following inscription is painted on the outer wall of the chapel: "Come in to me, O wanderer, my heart is calling for you, if tomorrow another comes, you will be glad to be with me".
